Klay Thompson, Jimmy Butler and Draymond Green are still reaping the benefits of decisions to stay in college another year with their selection Monday to the 12-man USA Basketball Olympic team roster.

They might otherwise be forgotten names by now, but they resisted outside voices – agents, runners, greedy family members – whispering in their ear saying that they were ready to cash in and declare early for the NBA Draft. ...

Tom Shanahan is an award-winning sportswriter and the author of "Raye of Light". Tom spent the bulk of his career in San DIego writing for the San Diego Union-Tribune.
